Tribulus Terrestris Extract

A traditional botanical extract standardized for furostanol saponins that supports male vigor, libido, and athletic vitality.

What it is

Tribulus Terrestris Extract is derived from the fruits and aerial parts of Tribulus terrestris L., a plant widely used in Ayurvedic and traditional Mediterranean medicine. Standardized extracts are concentrated to contain 40% to 90% steroidal saponins, dominated by protodioscin. Protodioscin is a furostanol saponin that enhances nitric oxide release, supports androgen receptor density, and promotes sexual desire and athletic vigor in men without artificially disrupting endogenous luteinizing hormone or systemic hormone cascades.

Also known as: Puncture Vine, Tribulus, Gokshura

What it does

  • Supports male sexual vitality, libido, and erectile satisfaction.
  • Promotes nitric oxide synthesis for enhanced vascular blood flow.
  • Assists in maintaining physical stamina and vitality during exercise.

Amplified by probiotics

Steroidal saponins like protodioscin possess complex glycosidic sugar chains that limit direct intestinal mucosal absorption. Commensal gut bacteria, particularly probiotic strains of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, hydrolyze these sugar moieties via glycoside hydrolases, transforming protodioscin into bioavailable sapogenins such as diosgenin. In addition, probiotic-mediated suppression of gut mucosal inflammation protects tight junction architecture, improving intestinal permeability and systemic uptake of active saponin metabolites. A healthy microbiome also maintains liver-gut axis function, supporting steroidal biotransformation, vascular endothelial nitric oxide production, and sustained physical vitality in active men.

Typical dose

250–750 mg/day (standardized to 40–60% saponins)

The evidence

Evidence: moderate

Randomized clinical trials show that standardized Tribulus terrestris extract significantly improves erectile function and sexual satisfaction scores in men with mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction (GamalEl Din et al. 2019, Aging Male; Kamenov et al. 2017, Maturitas). Sports science evaluations demonstrate improved recovery markers and nitric oxide production during physical training.
